Members of the Right2Know (R2K) Campaign have called on SABC's major corporate advertisers to boycott the public broadcaster.
R2K demonstrators handed over memorandums to the companies which devote hundreds of millions of rands in advertising spend to the SABC.
The organisations include, Cape Chamber of Commerce, FNB, Absa, SABMiller and Vodacom.
At this point the crisis at the SABC is profound, and is affecting all South Africans. We want advertisers to withhold their ad spend until the crisis is fixed.— Murray Hunter, R2K spokesperson
R2K spokesperson Murray Hunter says the campaign has been forced to pressure companies to exercise their conscience.
This comes after SABC board appointed Hlaudi Motsoeneng as its group executive of corporate affairs, despite a court ruling that found his permanent appointment as COO was illegal.
According to Hunter, big business has been completely silent on the SABC crisis, and needs to find its collective voice in battling corruption in South Africa.
