The Supreme Court of Appeals (SCA) in Bloemfontein has ruled that every child has a right to have a textbook at the start of the school year.
Stephen Grootes on Wednesday spoke to Equal Education's lawyer Kate Patterson about what the judgment means.
Listen to the conversation below:
I hope that they (DBE) will comply... We've had four previous court orders which they didn't comply with... I hope they don't appeal this judgment because it would be a waste of resources.— Kate Patterson, Equal Education's lawyer
The department of education's spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga also weighed in on the landmark ruling.
We had used this court case to tell the nation the challenges we face as a department in the process of delivering textbooks... Most of the challenges are beyond our control... It's a moving target; you'll never be able be able to do it.— Elijah Mhlanga, DBE spokesperson
