The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviewed Christopher Gilmour, Analyst at the Wealth and Investment Department at Barclays.
Gilmour discussed the following five things that will change when SABMiller goes:
How will South African investors be able to invest in a local alcoholic drinks manufacturer with the departure of SABMiller? Perhaps via Distell?
How will the All Share Index/Top 40 index composition change with the departure of SABMiller?
Will locals be able to invest in Namibian Breweries?
What about the 150 or so craft brewers in South African? Will they get a boost with the takeover of SAB? In other words; will there be a wave of revulsion among South African beer drinkers towards mainstream AB Inbev brews like Budweiser (assuming they decide to brew it locally).
- Will the move into Africa be as profound as when SAB and Castel were leading the charge? Will Castel stay with the new enlarged group? How will ABI adapt to doing business in Africa?
