How Boney M. came to rule (to this day!) the airwaves during Christmas

Boney M. is a vocal group from Germany.

The original four members of the group were Jamaican-born singers Liz Mitchell and Marcia Barrett, Maizie Williams from Montserrat and Bobby Farrell from Aruba.

The group was formed in 1976 and achieved popularity during the disco era of the late 1970s.

Rulers of the Christmas airwaves (and instore radio)

In 1978 Boney M. released "Mary's Boy Child - Oh My Lord".

It went to number one and became one of the UK’s top selling singles of all time.

"Mary's Boy Child - Oh My Lord" remains, to this day, an airplay favourite around the world during the Christmas holiday season.

In 1981 Boney M. released their sixth studio album entitled “Christmas Album”.

“Christmas Album” included many smash hits such as “Little Drummer Boy” and “Feliz Navidad” which, even today, dominate the airwaves during Christmas time.

Africa Melane (in for Pippa Hudson) interviewed music guru Sean Brokensha.
