Pravin Gordhan stands his ground on SAA-Airbus lease deal

Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan has announced that South African Airways (SAA) will opt for the original leasing deal with Airbus.

702 and Cape Talk's Stephen Grootes spoke to the chairperson of the SA Pilots Association, Captain John Harty, and political analyst Ralph Mathekga about recent developments on the issue.

Listen to the conversation below:

Our position has been very clear from the start and that is asking the ministers to apply their minds to put a board that is fit for purpose with the expertise to run an international airline.

Cpt John Harty, SA Pilots Association

This is the beginning of a very powerful Treasury, maybe until another attempt to stop them from doing their work.

Ralph Mathekga, political analyst

We're about to hit our eighth CEO, we have no CFO, there is no procurement officer now, and all these people are being pushed aside and leaving because of fall-outs with the chair.

Cpt John Harty, SA Pilots Association
