The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has called for former president FW De Klerk to be stripped of his Nobel Peace Prize.
We call on Nobel Peace Prize committee to recall De Klerk's award & reissue it to Mandela; its clear he should have never shared it with him— #RegisterToVoteEFF (@MbuyiseniNdlozi) December 27, 2015
This comes after De Klerk critisised renewed efforts to remove a statue of Cecil John Rhodes at Oxford University's Oriel College.
The EFF's Mbuyiseni Ndlozi on Monday said that apartheid thinking and colonial statues must fall across the world and questioned whether De Klerk was apologetic of apartheid.
Listen to the full conversation from The Midday Report:
Our issue with De Klerk's statement is his insinuation that there was a time that colonisation and apartheid could have been politically correct. This invalidates his apology for apartheid. He does not deserve the prize of peace he was awarded alongside Nelson Mandela.— Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, EFF Spokesperson
Nobody who says that colonisation is politically correct is a peace-builder.— Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, EFF Spokesperson
Rhodes is a colonialist. An anti-black racist mass murder who cannot be publicly celebrated.— Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, EFF Spokesperson
