Umalusi CEO Mafu Rakometsi urges SA to be patient for matric results

Umalusi CEO Dr Mafu Rakometsi has asked South Africans to be patient for the announcement of matric results on Tuesday evening, adding that speculation may lead to added anxiety.

He explained that the pass rate should not be conflated with individual subject performance and could not reveal whether the pass rate had dropped or increased.

This comes after the assurance body said the performance of pupils in maths, science and accounting continues to decline.

Listen to the full conversation:

We are not able to yet say whether the pass rate is lower or higher than last year. We know that perfomance in individual subjects is lower.

Umalusi CEO, Dr Mafu Rakometsi

Results have not been concluded to determine one collective pass rate.

Umalusi CEO, Dr Mafu Rakometsi

The speculation that people are making is causing problems and anxiety for parents and pupils.
