SANParks criticised for slow reaction over an injured lion

Images of an injured young male lion in obvious distress and pain made rounds on social media over the weekend.

The pictures were shot by tourists and later posted them on Facebook.

Questions were raised about what exactly happened to the lion and whether it received veterinary care.

William Mabasa, General Manager, Communications and Marketing at SANParks says that the lion was caught on a snare.

On Tuesday morning the lion was treated by a vet and the snare was removed. The animal was assessed and found to be fit, it was released back to the wild
