What is the way forward for #feesmustfall?

Last year was dubbed the 'year of the student', following the successful nationwide #feesmustfall protest by students - rising up against higher education fee increments.

It's a new year and past students still have outstanding fees and new students will be coming into the higher education system.

In the wake of the matric results announcement Chairperson of the Council on Higher Education, Professor Themba Mosia chats to Africa Melane about the challenges that contribute to matric pupils being poorly prepared for the rigours of a university education and how to mitigate this, as well as what the way forward is for #feesmustfall.

Many universities are not able to scrap outstanding fees. Because they need that money to survive and offer their core business. Arrangements are being made for students to make arrangements, especially the ones who cannot afford.

Professor Themba Mosia, Chairperson of the Council on Higher Education

The decision to scrap tuition fees completely has not been completed. It is a process that will take some time.
