Khadja Nin begs for an African resolution to Burundi conflict

Internationally acclaimed Burundian singer, Khadja Nin has been on a global campaign to speak out against President Pierre Nkurunziza, whose bid for a third term in office has sparked protests and fears of a return to ethnic conflict in the east African nation.

Khadja Nin is in South Africa for the second time, this time joining the ANC during the celebration of the 104th anniversary of the founding of the organisation, in a bod to plead on behalf of her birth country.

Meanwhile, two people were injured in a grenade attack in the capital Bujumbura on 4 January 2015, the latest in the conflict.

Khadja Nin speaks to Africa Melane about the plight of the people of Burundi.

My country became the land of killing. My sisters' bodies a battlefield.

Khadja Nin, Celebrated Burundian singer and Goodwill Ambassador for the ACP Observatory on Migration

I came to beg for help [for Burundi]. I think the solution will not come from Europe or the United States. We have to learn to solve African problems by ourselves.
