The periodic table will gain four new elements - with atomic numbers of 113, 115, 117, and 118 - completing the unfilled spaces on the seventh row of the chart.
Dr. Chris Smith, aka 'The Naked Scientist' says the lab-made elements are metallic and will therefore end in 'ium'.
The heavy elements, which may only exist for a fraction of a second, will be useful as catalysts in chemical experiments.
Smith elaborates on this and other strange and scientific questions from CapeTalk and 702 listeners.
