Panyaza Lesufi promises to clear schools placement backlog

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi says more than 16 000 Grade 1 and 8 learners have not been placed in schools due to late applications, lack of space and relocations.

Lesufi on Wednesday spoke to 702's John Robbie about the department's readiness for 2016 and how the department will be dealing with the backlog from the waiting list.

Listen to the conversation below:

We're going to clear the backlog before end of this week. Those parents only coming today, I have to be honest, it's going to be a long long wait.
