Psy's Gangnam Style reached 1 billion views in 2012 creating a new benchmark for views. It took only 158 days. The second video to cross the line was Justin Bieber's Baby although that took over 1 000 days.

The new record was announced by YouTube in a post to say that Adele's Hello had reached the mark in 87 days.

It also noted that there are now 17 videos with a billion views and 7 of those were posted in the 2015.

Gangnam Style is still the most watched with 2,5 billion views although even at its peak it had 15 million views per day, Hello launched with over 25 million views in one day and an average of 11,5 million views per day.

If the entire populations' of Swaziland, Mauritius, Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and New Zealand watched Adele's Hello, it would only account for one day's average views - 11,5 million per day
