The Department of Social Development is concerned about a growing trend of retailers and restaurant owners using the SASSA brand to lure SASSA beneficiaries into buying their products.
Lumka Oliphant from the Department of Social Development, speaking to John Robbie on Tuesday, shed light on this matter. John also spoke to intellectual property lawyer Graeme Gilfillan about the use of state intellectual property.
Gilfillan said that if SASSA was regulated, the government would benefit from having additional income streams, adding that throughout the value chain, there is an income generation opportunity for everyone involved - if it is done right.
