Mpofu argues Cliff case is about M-Net's contractual duties, not race

Axed Idols judge Gareth Cliff has started his court battle against broadcaster M-Net over his dismissal from the reality show.

The TV and radio personality wants to have Idols auditions halted, until his dismissal as an idols judge is reversed.

EWN reporter Dineo Bendile on Tuesday said that Advocate Dali Mpofu argued that the case is about contractual obligations and not race.

Listen to the full conversation from The Midday Report with Stephen Grootes:

Dali Mpofu opened his argument this morning by saying that the matter is not about whether Cliff is racist, but rather the enforcement of contractual rights.

Dineo Bendile, EWN reporter

The question today is whether or not a contract existed between Cliff and M-Net, which stated that he would be a judge on the 2016 season of Idols.

Dineo Bendile, EWN reporter

Cliff says there was an agreement in place between himself, M-Net and the producers, however M-Net has rejected this.

Mpofu went through e-mail exchanges between Cliff and Idols producers and argued that the agreement is binding.
