JHB City to question Gupta rezoning in Saxonwold

The new Johannesburg DA administration plans to review a decision that allowed the Gupta family to rezone the area around their compound of mansions.

Tessa Turvey, chairperson of Saxonwold and Parkwood Residents Association joins Stephen Grootes on the line, after claiming the City allowed this rezoning just before the elections.

This is only in the news because of the Gupta property. Usually, you submit your plans to Council, and then Council allows the residents association to review the plans.

Tessa Turvey, chairperson of Saxonwold and Parkwood Residents Association

The Residents Association is entitled to object if they find anything untoward, the plans are amended, and eventually approval goes ahead.

We're not sure how this approval went ahead in the first place because the building is not in keeping with what is built in Saxonwold generally.

Tessa Turvey, chairperson of Saxonwold and Parkwood Residents Association

She says the building was built on plans that were approved by Council. A different building was built which increased coverage by 9%.

They then applied to legalise this change after the fact.

Has the law been broken?

I believe someone might not have been doing their job correctly.
