Donations help Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital construct unique facility

Donations towards the Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital have helped raise R780-million towards the construction of the new facility and acquiring new equipment.

702's Azania Mosaka on Monday spoke to global campaign leader of the facility, Mary-Jane Morifi, about the recent developments.

Listen to the interview below:

It's so exciting. At the end of Febraury the construction team and everybody moves off site and they will hand over the building to us so we can start the moving of the medical equipment.

Mary-Jane Morifi, Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital

The bulk of the money we raised went to the construction of the facility. The amount that is now outstanding, that needs to be raised is to pay for the medical equipment.

Mary-Jane Morifi, Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital

...The contribution of ordinary South Africans has gone a long way to get us to where we are now.

Mary-Jane Morifi, Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital

Africa has got 480 million children, to have just four hospitals looking after 480 million children then clearly one can see that we need a lot more to be able to provide quality services.
