9 promises President Jacob Zuma made at the 2015 State of the Nation Address

South Africans will forever remember President Jacob Zuma’s 2015 State of the Nation Address (Sona) for flying fists, mass walkouts and cellphone signal jamming.

We also remember Sona 2015 for the important issues the President made no mention of: e-tolls and Nkandla.

What many may have forgotten are these nine promises the President made at Sona 2015:

  • A resolution to the energy challenge

  • The revitalisation of agriculture and the agro-processing value chain

  • The advancement of beneficiation of South Africa’s mineral wealth

  • A more effective implementation of a higher impact Industrial Policy Action Plan

  • The encouragement of private sector investment

  • The moderation of workplace conflict

  • The unlocking of the potential of small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs), cooperatives, township and rural enterprises.

  • The reform of state owned companies, information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure or broadband roll-out, water, sanitation and transport infrastructure.

  • The introduction of Operation Phakisa, aimed at growing the ocean economy.

Watch this space for Sona 2016 and the report back from the President on Government's progress in delivering on these nine promises.

Check out his tweet sent from the Presidency's Twitter account on the day of Sona 2016:
