Maintaining 2 capitals is expensive - Jacob Zuma

President Jacob Zuma says Parliament needs to review the cost of having both Cape Town and Pretoria as the country's capitals.

Listen to the conversation below:

Compatriots, a big expenditure item we would like Parliament to consider is the maintenance of two capitals - Pretoria as the administrative one and Cape Town as the legislative capital. We believe that the matter requires the attention of Parliament soon.

Jacob Zuma, president of South Africa

The executive has looked into this matter and the cost is too big to be maintained... because it means - particularly with the executive - you must have two houses, one in Cape Town and one in Pretoria; two cars, one in Pretoria and one in Cape Town.
