#Sona2016: 'Parliament has long been a circus'

The EFF made good on their promise to disrupt President Jacob Zuma's State of the Nation Address on Thursday.

Redi Tlhabi on Friday asked 702 and CapeTalk listeners to share their views on what transpired in the National Assembly.

Listen to the calls below:

Parliament is long time a circus. You must thank modern technology and democracy for the people seeing this type of thing...

Muhammad, caller in Gatesville

There was an incident where the opposition party called the National Party a bunch of baboons... This circus thing has been going on for a long time... It's just that we see it now since 1994; we must thank democracy for that.

Muhammad, caller in Gatesville

Madam Speaker must relax a little bit more. The EFF is not a threat. Their strategy is very tired. Actually they should be ashamed, including the older guy - Terror Lekota. There's a difference between disruption and holding the executive to account.

Tebogo, caller in Buccleuch

The nuances that we see in the EFF's strategy is to say to young people - you can disrespect older people the way you like. There's a way to differ with respect and dignity... If they care about this country, they should try to change their strategy so that we can hold the executive to account.

Tebogo, caller in Buccleuch

People are talking about Jacob Zuma being protected by the ANC, that's not true, the president is being protected by the opposition parties. The way they handled this thing- he is laughing at his office right now.

George, caller in Pretoria

The question for me has got to be, is Jacob Zuma a deserving president to receive such disdain or they just making things up? It's quite a sad thing when you sit in parliament and you know that what Malema is doing is disrespectful, but you're saying I support them, let them walk out, let them shout, let them disrupt.

Scelo, caller in Tsakane
