#UCT: Action to be taken against violent students

Spokesperson for the University of Cape Town (UCT), Elijah Moholola, says the institution strongly condemns the use of violence during demonstrations.

Students have been protesting over a shortage of student accommodation.

Eight students were arrested during the violent demonstrations.

The group has been charged with malicious damage to property and public violence.

We are highly worried and disturbed by the actions that the students resorted to last night because we understand all the issues they are raising.

Spokesperson for the University of Cape Town (UCT), Elijah Moholola.

Moholola said UCT does not condone the violence.

There is various forms of action that will be taken against the people who have been identified so far. They will face provisional suspension.

The students have since been released on bail.
