'There will be tremendous progress in the world of Artificial Intelligence'

While Artificial Intelligence is not a commonly known phenomenon in South Africa, it's experiencing growth in the field of research.

702's Azania Mosaka spoke to head of National Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research, Professor Tommie Meyer, regarding this fascinating world.

Listen to the conversation below:

Aristotle famously coined a version of logic, and the idea there was to try formalise the idea of logic and what it means to reason. He captured that essential idea.

Prof Tommie Meyer, National Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research

Aristotle's ideas were taken much further up until today where we have a clear understanding of what Aristotle tried to capture 5000 years ago.

Prof Tommie Meyer, National Centre for Articificial Intelligence Research

What we are trying to do is to get machines to reason intelligenty in some way or another.

Prof Tommie Meyer, National Centre for Articficial Intelligence Research

We are at the dawn of a new era and there will be tremendous progress in the next couple of decades.

Prof Tommie Meyer, National Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research

The dangers of Artificial Intelligence are real, if we do things in the right way then we can ensure that the technology that is being developed is used in the right way.
