New calls for medical aid schemes to pay for HIV prevention drugs

Medical aid companies stand to benefit from preventative HIV care packages for clients, says healthcare funder Dr Humphrey Zokufa.

The Health Department will start providing antiretroviral (ARV) drugs to people at risk of contracting HIV and there have been fresh calls for medical aid programmes to follow suit.

CEO of the Board of Healthcare Funders, Dr Humphrey Zokufa says it is in the interest of medical aid companies to do so.

This part of the preventive care package that has to be part of the benefits... this drug is a good thing to pay for because medical aids have to pay when clients contract the disease.
