Nyanda and former MK cadres 'compelled' to deal with Gupta state capture claims

Former Communications Minister and Umkhonto Wesizwe comrade, General Siphiwe Nyanda confirmed reports that he was hijacked last night, saying that he was robbed of his cellphone and watch at gunpoint by three robbers.

General Nyanda on delivering a memorandum to Mantashe

General Nyanda also confirmed that he, along with 25 other ANC comrades, delivered a memorandum to the office of the Secretary-General, Gwede Mantashe.

He confirms that there was a draft of a memorandum asking for a 'dignified exit' by the President to be negotiated. He adds that they then refined the memorandum to rather call for a national conference, to discuss leadership, taking into account ANC processes.

We were under no illusion that either of these demands or requests from us would be acceded to by the leadership of the ANC.

We welcome the call by the ANC for investigation to continue under the Secretary-General. We believe that there are many people who will come forward and put evidence about the influence that this family is putting on the leadership with respect to the economy of the country.

There has been disquiet among some members of the ANC about specifically the influence of the Guptas at head office, among other things that we talk about in the memorandum.

We have been careful not to be embroiled publicly in what happens in the ANC, what happened last week however compelled us to deal with things. We are confident that there will be more support.
