Glass companies investigated for alleged collusion

The Competition Commission is investigating allegations of collusion between glass companies, PG Glass, Glasfit, Shatterprufe and Digicall.

The commission has reportedly conducted search and seizure operations at the Gauteng premises of the companies, in search of evidence of concerted practices, fixed prices and market allocation.

Stephen Grootes spoke to Competition Commissioner, Themba Bonakele to find out more about the allegations and where these claims come from.

There’s also a supply relationship between Shutterprufe and Glassfit. We think there’s some coordination around that.

Themba Bonakele, Competition Commissioner at the Competition Commission

We must find evidence of an agreement of consented practice. This could also include market allocation.

Themba Bonakele, Competition Commissioner at the Competition Commission

We are making allegations that they have colluded.

Themba Bonakele, Competition Commissioner at the Competition Commission

We would have obtained information from a whistle-blower, a member of the public or one of the companies themselves coming forward.
