ConCourt Nkandla ruling and South Africa's electoral system

Policy analyst Nompumelelo Runji says that the African National Congress (ANC) has to sit together and decide what action it will take, after Thursday's Constitutional Court ruling that President Jacob Zuma failed to uphold, defend and respect the Constitution when he ignored the Public Protector's Nkandla Report.

Speaking to #NightTalk's Gugs Mhlungu and Sizwe Dhlomo, Runji described the impact of the ConCourt ruling on the ANC and on the country's electoral system.

Runji says that a current challenge in South Africa's electoral system is that Members of Parliament (MPs) are more accountable to political parties than their constituencies - people who cast votes. She calls for a system which finds a balance in political accountability and recourse for voters.
