ANC to attend NWC meeting on Nkandla ConCourt ruling

The African National Congress (ANC) will today hold an extended national working committee (NWC) meeting after the Constitutional Court judgment on Nkandla renewed calls for President Jacob Zuma's impeachment.

On Friday night, ANC Secretary-General Gwede Mantashe said the opposition was over-reacting to the ruling, which found that Zuma broke his oath of office when he failed to comply with Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's remedial action.

EWN's Rahima Essop says the meeting includes all NWC members of the ANC and is open to national executive committee (NEC) members who wish to participate.

The meeting will seek a way forward for the party and plan how it will mitigate the damage to its reputation, explains Essop.

Mantashe will brief the ANC's Parliamentary caucus on Tuesday ahead of the impeachment debate, while opposition parties meet to strategise.
