The Sunday Times newspaper has admitted to making errors in its coverage of the alleged 'rogue unit' at the South African Revenue Service (Sars).
The newspaper's editor Bongani Siqoko explained that there were some incorrect facts in the more than thirty stories which The Sunday Times published at the time.
Sars Commissioner Tom Moyane spoke to Stephen Grootes. Moyane alluded to the fact that pursuing a Hawks probe regarding the matter was the right thing to do at the time, despite the false reporting.
Moyane did not comment on the investigation of Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan by the Hawks and said the subject was sub judice.
I would like to be vindicated. The matter is with the Hawks and they are the best unit for a response.— Tom Moyane, Sars Commissioner
Meanwhile, Sars has managed to reach its target of a trillion rand in tax revenue for the last financial year, which Moyane attributes to collective effort.
Stephen Grootes also asked Moyane about the controversial Sars restructuring that he has been involved in.
