Opposition political parties say impeachment motion against Zuma isn't over yet

On NightTalk, Gugs Mhlungu and Sizwe Dhlomo spoke to the Democratic Alliance (DA) and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) following a failed impeachment motion against President Jacob Zuma in parliament today.

The motion of impeachment was carried out today after long heated debate by opposition political parties calling for Zuma to be removed from his position as the president of the Republic of South Africa.

Phumzile van Damme, DA spokesperson says today proved wrong the view that there are good members within the ANC. EFF's Mbuyiseni Ndlozi insisted that the impeachment motion against Zuma is far from over.

A lot of people are quite upset and they want to teach the ANC a lesson, particularly urban areas and Metros. So, I think the ANC must be very afraid.

Phumzile van Damme, DA spokesperson

What today showed us is that the ANC, to befrank, is rotten. And, it doesn’t matter who is a leader.

Phumzile van Damme, DA spokesperson

We have characterised them as a zombiefied collective, who do everything toprotect Jacob Zuma.

Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, EFF spokesperson

It’s not the end. Impeachment proceedings, historically, mean that what’s stillpossible is that parliament could decide to constitute a disciplinary hearing.

Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, EFF spokesperson

Members of Parliament (MPs) voted on the motion, with 143 saying the president should be removed, and 233 members saying he shouldn't. There were no abstentions.

This happens shortly after the Constitutional Court’s ruling last week, that President Jacob Zuma failed to “uphold, defend and respect” the Constitution when he ignored the Public Protector's Nkandla report.
