Unsuccessful impeachment debate 'not a loss', says DA leader Mmusi Maimane

Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane says the impeachment debate was a unique Constitutional motion which has exposed the ruling party.

Opposition parties were defeated in the National Assembly, with only a total of 143 Members of Parliament voting in favour of removing Zuma.

According to Maimane, the 233 MPs who voted against the motion violated their Constitutional oath.

We don't feel that it is a loss. It is an indicator of a deficit in the understanding of Constitutionalism by the ANC.

He says the African National Congress (ANC) cannot use majoritarianism to protect criminality.
