Struggle veterans calling for Zuma to go must talk to ANC directly says Mantashe

The African National Congress (ANC) says impeachment calls from within the party and from veterans are out of line. These members need to engage with the Party directly, and not in public.

The ruling party's Secretary-General Gwede Mantashe says, the ANC says it will not give in to opposition parties who have moved for President Jacob Zuma to step down.

I don't know if there was an expectation that, when [DA leader] Mmusi Maimane says: we must impeach the president, the ANC would go running and agree. It doesn't work like that.

Gwede Mantashe, ANC Secretary General

Mantashe says all regional ANC branches will meet with civil society groups willing to engage in constructive discussions.

People will continue to talk to us and engage us on these matters. The actions that are being mobilised for are all well and good, but people must talk to us.

Gwede Mantashe, ANC Secretary General

Mantashe criticised party veterans, Trevor Manuel and those in the Gauteng branch for spreading negativity on public platform, adding that they will 'pay the price'.
