Gauteng Hawks boss suspended and Matric 2014 results wait almost over

EWN has learnt that head of the Hawks in Gauteng, General Shadrack Sibiya, has received a letter of a notice to suspend him. This follows the suspension of Hawks boss Anwar Dramat. Last month Dramat was placed on precautionary suspension pending an investigation into his alleged involvement in the illegal rendition of Zimbabweans in 2010.

But Dramat's lawyer claims the move is politically motivated because he refused to get rid of certain people investigating cases close to President Jacob Zuma...

The country’s matric results are set to be officially released by Basic Education Minister Angie Motsekga in Auckland Park this evening. But widespread reports indicate that the overall pass rate is expected to be down – with pupils battling in maths, science and languages. The national assessment exams indicated that there are indeed problems – and there have been warnings of a downward trend for the pass rate over the next five years. Ray spoke to education specialist Prof Mary Metcalf.
