Uber drivers have gone on strike against the 20% price cut in rides which comes into effect at 5pm on Thursday.
702's Xolani Gwala spoke to Uber SA CEO, Alon Litz, regarding the issue.

We made an announcement to drivers before this went public. We held information sessions on across all cities on Monday and invited drivers to go through the rationale behind the price cuts and the reasons why we feel that this is going to be a success as well as a guarantee structure.

Litz said that the decision to cut prices is not as a result of the company not surviving in the industry.
We welcome competition and but it no way impacts our strategy...The more people using smart phones to request rides the better for the industry as a whole.

It's happening all over the world because it's a succesful srategy. We've seen it work in multiple markets whether it's London, Warsaw or Lagos.
