According to family dietician and nutritionist, Anne Till, parents can expect ‘food jags’ from children in the early stages of development, between two and six years old. She says it’s normal.
A food jag is when a child will only eat one food item, food with only a certain texture, or when a child insists that food should be presented in a certain way.
That is kind of a normal behaviour but you have to work through it with the child, but most children will kind of outgrow it at the age of 6— Anne Till, family dietician and nutritionist

Till says that there is no way that parents can force children to eat, but parents can constantly provide healthy and nutritious food, and the child will eventually eat some of it.

Children don’t really know what they will and won’t eat, you’ve got to increase exposure and generally with small children you have to introduce one new food at time— Anne Till, family dietician and nutritionist
As parents we do take a child’s decision around food as absolute and usually it is not absolute we just need to encourage them by saying “it is good, it is healthy, mom and dad eat it and it is healthy— Anne Till, family dietician and nutritionist
