COPE boycotting Parly to shun ANC's contempt of court - Lekota

Congress of the People (COPE) has withdrawn from participating in Parliamentary activities, after a motion to impeach President Jacob Zuma failed last week.

COPE leader Mosiuoa 'Terror' Lekota explains that the party does not want to be found guilty of contempt of court.

Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng ruled that Zuma failed to uphold, defend and respect the Constitution in the Nkandla matter at the Constitutional Court.

The ANC, by undermining the ConCourt decision, has in fact committed another violation against the Constitution. Contempt of court is essentially the refusal to recognise the authority of the judiciary and we don't want to be part of that.

Mosiuoa 'Terror' Lekota, COPE leader

Lekota says the party will urgently approach the Constitutional Court for guidance in the matter, and consult with other parties.
