People's Assembly to meet over how to 'reclaim SA democracy'

A range of civic, faith-based and social organisations are set to meet over the weekend, to discuss ways to protect the Constitution and pressurise President Jacob Zuma to resign.

The People's Assembly, born from a meeting outside the Constitutional Court last week, will hold the People’s Consultative Assembly for Democracy in Soweto on Saturday.

Activist Mark Heywood says he expects thousands will attend the meeting to strengthen the mass mobilisation.

According to Heywood, aside from loyal ANC members, it seems there's almost total support for Zuma to step down.

The political parities are unanimous on it. The churches have issued statements and are unanimous on it. Civil society is nearly unanimous on it, and ordinary people on the streets all say that this President is bad for the country.

The group will also address the national dialogue calling for mass action which will take place on Freedom Day, 27 April 2016.
