Launching ANC election manifesto in PE was a smart move, says political analyst

The African National Congress's (ANC) election campaign is in full swing in Nelson Mandela Bay, as party leaders prepare for their local government election manifesto launch on Saturday.

Nelson Mandela Bay is expected to be one of the country’s most hotly contested metros in the local government polls in August.

Political analyst Nic Borain says that the party's strategy to launch the manifesto in the metro is a good move to secure votes.

It is a good move. The Eastern Cape and Nelson Mandela Bay are on the brink of falling below 50% [support for the ANC].

Nic Borain, political analyst

According to Borain, the ANC will appreciate the shift of national attention from leadership controversies, to the election campaign.

They've had a torrid time over the last few months. They will favour the opportunity to focus on its record, and selling the party... I think they'll be delighted to focus on their positive political message.

Nic Borain, political analyst

The ANC manifesto will most likely address employment, service delivery, economic growth and corruption, says Borain.
