The Department of Home Affairs on Tuesday denied allegations of a Gupta-linked company's involvement in a partnership with Visa Facilitation Service to administer the visa process.
702's Stephen Grootes (standing in for John Robbie) spoke to Director-General of the department, Mkuseli Apleni about the issue.
Listen to the interview below:
VFS is not only dealing with South Africa. It's got contracts with more than 50 countries. Based on that, it was a South African who was intending to visit Saudi Arabia.— Mkuseli Apleni, Home Affairs Director-General
When we were appointing VFS, we had a process of vetting companies. The holding company was checked thoroughly and we understand that the company was registered in Switzerland.— Mkuseli Apleni, Home Affairs Director-General
We don't have any relation with the company the member was showing on that day. There's a shelf company which uses the same name. That is the company which they thought was the one working with us.— Mkuseli Apleni, Home Affairs Director-General
