SACP's Jeremey Conin on reinstatement of Zuma's charges

Jeremy Cronin, First Deputy Secretary General of SACP, speaking to Stephen Grootes in his SACP capacity, says he was not quoted accurately in the press on Friday.

The ball is in the court of the NPA now, says Cronin, and they need to make a decision one way or another.

The long delay is not a good thing and the country and President Zuma should not be left in limbo, he says.

But Cronin says, was not saying that charges should be reinstated categorically.

Stephen Grootes asked Cronin if it would be possible for Zuma to continue in office of charges were reinstated against him?

I think it would be very difficult. And again that would need to be both the President's own call, as well as I think the ANC.

Jeremy Cronin, First Deputy Secretary General of SACP

The ANC would have to make decisions, (speaking as First Deputy Secretary general of the SACP)...and I think the SACP has been very clear throughout, ...that all of those are ANC matters, and we should leave it to the ANC to make those decisions. But I think it would be very awkward if there were reinstating charges for the President.

Jeremy Cronin, First Deputy Secretary General of SACP

It is a dilemma for the ANC, and I think President Zuma still has very strong support in many parts of the ANC....many issues to raise problems for the ANC...everyone in ANC would admit this does present an awkward challenge for the ANC.
