Malema's IEC vote-rigging statement a dangerous attack, says CASAC

The Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution (CASAC), is an organisation that promotes the ideals of our Constitution. It has slammed claims by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) that the electoral commission rigged votes in the last elections.

During the party's election manifesto launch at the weekend, EFF leader Julius Malema said that the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) "stole" votes in the 2014 polls.

CASAC Executive Director Lawson Naidoo, says that Malema's statement is an attack on an independent and credible institution.

We believe that the statement he made was highly irresponsible, reckless and unwarranted.

According to Naidoo, such dangerous statements could encourage hostile attitudes towards the IEC.
