Limpopo police say that at least 13 schools have been set alight in Vuwani and Levubu this week in protest against municipal demarcation.
The Department of Basic Education (DBE) says two of those schools have been completely razed to the ground while others have been partially torched and vandalised.
DBE spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga says that the department will face the arduous challenge of reconstructing the academic records for the destroyed schools.
The protest action has also impacted schools in surrounding areas which have had to shut down.
The damage is severe, so much so that 50 schools have been shut down in that area. Which means that the damage to that programme of learning and teaching is even worse.— Elijah Mhlanga, Spokesperson for the DBE
