What's behind the taxi violence at Mall of Africa?

The Gauteng Regional Chairperson of the South African National Taxi Association (Santaco) confirms that the shootout between taxi drivers at Mall of Africa was a route dispute between taxi associations.

Four suspects were arrested after three people were wounded in the shootout at a parking lot at Mall of Africa.

Speaking to #NightTalk's Gugs Mhlungu and Sizwe Dhlomo, Ralph Jones says that the dispute over the Mall of Africa taxi route has been happening for sometime, and that the local taxi industry has long called for government intervention.

The mall (Mall of Africa) is central. There are operations that will come from Pretoria, Ekurhuleni, etc. If there is a gatekeeper, things will not go accordingly
