A meeting is underway between Gauteng MECs and provincial taxi associations to discuss the route dispute, which led to a shootout between taxi drivers at the newly opened Mall of Africa in Midrand, Gauteng.
Three people were shot and wounded in the confrontation, which led to four arrests.
MEC for Roads and Transport Ismail Vadi says that police are investigating the violent shootout.
According to Vadi, some association members were dissatisfied with the initial agreement for only seven taxi associations to operate in the Mall of Africa vicinity.
Unfortunately, there were particular association members, or people hired by them, who felt aggrieved by the decision and there was a shootout yesterday.— Ismail Vadi, MEC for Roads and Transport
