Community leaders plot way forward with government officials in Vuwani

Provincial government officials engaged with traditional leaders, chiefs and other community representatives on Sunday in a bid to end violent demonstrations and reopen schools in Vuwani, Limpopo.

Local government spokesperson Phuti Seloba says that it has been difficult trying to gather all stakeholders to discuss a way forward following protests last week.

It was not easy to get people around the table to talk, until yesterday when we met with the majority of traditional leaders in the area.

Learning has been brought to a standstill after more than 20 schools were torched and vandalised, with over 50 schools shut down in the region.

According to Seloba, 21 suspects are expected to appear in court today for their alleged involvement in the recent spate of arson attacks

Residents want the Municipal Demarcation Board to reverse the decision to remove them from the Makhado Municipality and include them in a new municipality.
