Entrepreneurship and TVET Colleges key in combating youth unemployment

Deputy Minister in the Presidency Buti Manamela says that next year entrepreneurship will be piloted as a subject in South African schools.

After StatisticsSA announced that unemployment had increased in the country in the first quarter of this year, #NightTalk listeners shared concerns about the extent of youth unemployment.

Speaking to Gugs Mhlungu and Sizwe Dhlomo on #NightTalk, Deputy Minister Manamela said that an emphasis on producing entrepreneurs and artisans will contribute in upskilling young South Africans and reduce youth unemployment in the country.

Listen to the interview below:

We must not look at the unemployment numbers in isolation. Jobs, particularly youth jobs, are being shed globally

Buti Manamela, Deputy Minister in the Presidency

We think the solution (to youth employment) is not just encouraging young people to look for jobs, but for them to be creators of jobs

Buti Manamela, Deputy Minister in the Presidency

Let's go to TVET Colleges. When you graduate from them you have an 80 to 90 percent chance of being employed
