Tips on how to teach children about money matters

Parenting Expert Nikki Bush says that parents need to start money conversations with their children from an early age.

She says parents need to have strategy around pocket money and methods of teaching children about wealth creation, savings and budgeting because it will be invaluable to them at later in life.

Today’s children are very materialistic. They have been brought up in an era where they are always on, as in they are in a media saturated world.

They have been bombarded by messages that tell them that if they consume they can be happy.

Bush says that it is very important that children are aware of the value of money, in order to create financial freedom for themselves.

She suggests that children be not excluded when parents are planning budgets and dealing with essential money matters.

As parents today we have to bring our children up countering a lot of that messaging, because it’s not always about what you own that makes you happy.

We need to teach our children about the value of money and the fact that money does buy you things. But it’s what you do with money and what you do with your own energy, decisions and choices that makes you happy. It is not all about money.
