EFF loses Parly court bid ahead of President Jacob Zuma's Q&A session

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has failed in its legal bid to have National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete interdicted from evicting its MPs ahead of this afternoon's question and answer session in Parliament.

The sitting comes after Mbete had EFF members physically removed from the chambers after trying to prevent President Jacob Zuma from speaking during the Presidency Budget Vote.

EWN's Gaye Davis explains that High Court Judge Ashley Binns-Ward dismissed the application saying it was not urgent.

The EFF wanted the court to direct Baleka Mbete not to carry out certain actions - particularly, protection from any of their members from the House unlawfully.

The EFF wanted the question and answer session postponed until the speaker could assure the court of no physical violence against opposition MPs.

Davis expects that opposition parties will attend the sitting, but questions whether their behaviour will keep them in the benches or have them forcibly removed again.
