Are church uniforms a foreign concept that society has appropriated?

How has the history, invented traditions and politics of church uniforms influenced how congregants relate to the church over the years?

702's Azania Mosaka explored the matter with Pastor Joseph Kizito and listeners on this edition of Master Class.

Listen to the conversation below:

The church uniforms we see today are not from the West... It's about people finding identity and a quest for belonging.

Pastor Joseph Kizito

I find it interesting that among blacks, the quest for uniform is big time. Unlike the coloured and white communities.

Pastor Joseph Kizito

There's a growing sense of resentment from youth towards the uniforms because they want the uniforms to be modernised.

Pastor Joseph Kizito

The tradition for women to cover their heads comes as a sign of respect and upholding dignity.
