'We don't know anything about the evictions' says Hammanskraal ward councilor

Hammanskraal Extension Two ward councilor, Eugenie Tobajani, says as the ANC led government they will explain to the community what they need to do in order to prevent the process being delayed.

Tobajana says even though the municipality doesn't involve councilors when discussing or planning evictions, they will still hold public meetings to provide clarity to the community.

On Monday, two people were killed by angry community members as they were removing shacks of people occupying the land illegally in Sekampaneng, Hammaskraal.

When evictions start, we as councilors are not told that they are going to evict the land, because the municipality has identified a service provider that deals specifically with that.

Eugenie Tobajani, Hammanskraal Extension two ward councilor

As councilors, we don't do applications for the evictions, we don't know what is happening with the evictions. That's handled by Metro police not councilors.

Tobajana also denies claims made by one of the residents that the councilor in the area had announced live on radio and at community meetings that people were allowed to occupy the land and that services would follow.
