The presidency says Zuma and Gordhan have 'a good working relationship'

The presidency spokesperson, Dr Bongani Ngqulana, says President Jacob Zuma and the Minister of Finance Pravin Gordhan, 'enjoy a good working relationship'.

He says the narrative in the media, suggesting Zuma is involved in a war with Gordhan is toxic.

Ngqulana also says they are setting the record straight because this 'toxic narrative' comes at a critical period for South Africa's economy.

There are some allegations that the president and the minister of finance have a relationship of conflict and they are fighting over the control of the National Treasury. Let's remember Xolani that the president is the executive authority of the public, therefore he controls all the departments, including the National Treasury. So, the notion that he is fighting with the minister over the control of national treasury is quite absurd.

The president has said publicly that he has full confidence on Minister Pravin Gordhan, and that he supports him.
